Monsters Set to Wrangle With Wolves

In the fifth of 12 meetings between the two teams this season, the Cleveland Monsters, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, drop the puck vs. the Chicago Wolves, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, on Thursday with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.

MONSTERS PRE-SCOUT: Following a 5-2 road win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Tuesday, the Cleveland Monsters enter tonight’s game at 19-16-1-3 on the season. With a .538 points percentage, the Monsters currently rank fourth in the AHL’s Central Division standings and ninth in the Western Conference standings. Cleveland is led in scoring by C T.J. Tynan (4-20-24), C Alex Broadhurst (9-13-22) and LW Sonny Milano (9-12-21).

WOLVES PRE-SCOUT: In the wake of a 5-1 home win over Milwaukee on Sunday, the Chicago Wolves enter tonight’s game at 24-15-3-2 overall this season. With a .602 points percentage, the Wolves currently rank alone in third place in the AHL’s Central Division standings and sixth in the Western Conference. Chicago is led in scoring by LW Kenny Agostino (17-38-55), C Wade Megan (20-17-37) and C Ivan Barbashev (19-18-37).

SEASON SERIES: Thursday marks the fifth of 12 head-to-head meetings between the Monsters and Wolves this season and the third of six meetings between the two teams at The Q in the 2016-17 season. The Monsters are currently 3-1-0-0 vs. Chicago overall this season with a +2 goal differential (10/8) and 2-0-0-0 vs. the Wolves at home this year with a +3 goal differential (6/3).

KEYS TO SUCCESS:

  • ELIMINATE AGOSTINO: Chicago LW Kenny Agostino leads the AHL in points (55) and assists (38), but has just one assist to his credit in four appearances vs. the Monsters this year.
  • AMAZING ALEX: Monsters C Alex Broadhurst currently ranks second on the Cleveland roster in scoring (9-13-22), scored a goal in Tuesday’s 5-2 road win vs. Milwaukee and is the only player on the Monsters roster scoring at a point-per-game pace vs. the Wolves this season (4GP, 1-3-4).
  • PK PROWESS: Cleveland’s penalty kill ranks in or near the AHL’s top-five both overall (84.3%, 6th) and at home (88.8%, 5th) this season and will need to win the day against a Chicago power-play that also ranks among the league’s elite on both an overall (21.4%, 7th) and road (19.1%, 10th) basis.
