One of the first things to focus on when getting your child into hockey is getting them properly outfitted with the necessary equipment. Most Learn to Play programs provide equipment at a reduced cost or for rental. The following pieces of equipment are required for hockey participants:

  • Hockey Skates
  • Shin Guards
  • Hockey Pants
  • Girdle/Cup protector (recommended)
  • Mouth Guard
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Elbow Pads
  • Hockey Gloves
  • Helmet
  • Hockey Stick

Where to buy hockey equipment?

There are some great online stores like Hockey Monkey and Total Hockey where you can get brand new equipment at a discounted price but it is recommended for new players to buy equipment in-person to make sure everything fits correctly. Most ice rinks have their own Pro Shop where you can purchased equipment, get skates sharpened and more. Below you will find a map of local sporting goods stores that sell new or used hockey equipment.
