The season may have ended in April, but the community efforts never stop! As the Summer winds down, let’s take a look at the impact the Monsters have made in the Northeast Ohio during the offseason.
Cleveland Monsters Youth Hockey Clinics
Led by Cleveland hockey legend Jock Callander and Ohio Hockey Project founder and head coach Russ Sinkewich, the Monsters hosted their annual Youth Hockey Clinics August 7-10th. Local Mites and Squirts gathered at OBM Arena, the official practice facility of the Monsters, to learn fundamentals from the game’s best. The final day of camp even included a visit from everyone’s favorite bird: Sully!
Grow the Game
On August 18th and 19th, the Monsters held two full days of free street hockey clinics at Nautica Entertainment Complex! Hundreds of children from all over Northeast Ohio spent the day learning the game as part of the Monsters’ new “Grow the Game” community initiative. Sully and the Monsters Hockey Girls cheered on as participants practiced their shooting, passing, and stick handling skills. A big thank you to all who joined us to learn the great game of hockey!
If you missed out on Grow the Game, no worries! Through the Cleveland Monsters Learn to Play programs, your future hockey star can learn all about the sport. For more information on the locations of these programs and how to sign up, click Here.
Staff Volunteering at Malachi House
Earlier in August, members of the Cleveland Monsters and Cleveland Gladiators front office staff offered their services to Malachi House, a nonprofit organization in Cleveland that provides care for the terminally ill. Staff members spent the day enjoying an ice cream social with the residents, and taking the time to do some gardening outside of the facility!
From June to early September, the Cleveland Monsters and Cleveland Gladiators Summer Tour appeared at over twenty events throughout Northeast Ohio! Equipped with inflatables, prizes, hair paint, and more, the tour has been from Cedar Point to Wickliffe, and everywhere in between. Thank you to the organizations who hosted us, and keep your eye out for the inflatable Monster head! You never know when we'll be in your area!
In October, Monsters players will be participating in "Big Shots & Little Stars", with Flashes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The annual event will benefit Flashes of Hope and The Children’s Tumor Foundation.
