The Cleveland Monsters finished the 2016-17 season strong both on and off the ice. The team continued to make contributions to the Cleveland area, hosting a variety of events at The Q. Check out the latest community initiatives in this version of Monsters in the Community.
The Q Community Fun Run
Runners and walkers from all over Ohio gathered at Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday, March 26th, for The Q Community Fun Run presented by Planet Fitness. Over 2,200 members of the community participated in the 5K and 1-Mile Walk, with the proceeds going toward the Cavaliers Youth Foundation and Monsters & Gladiators Community Fund.
Mystery Puck fundraiser
The Mystery Puck Fundraiser, with help from the Monsters Better Halves, made its return to The Q on March 26th. Fans had the opportunity to purchase an individually wrapped puck autographed by a player from the Monsters, Blue Jackets, or other select NHL teams. All proceeds benefited the Monsters Community Fund and the Phil Simon Memorial Fund for youth hockey in Northeast Ohio. Thank you, Monsters fans, for your participation in this fundraiser!
Pucks & Paws
On Sunday, April 9th, Quicken Loans Arena became a canine paradise during our annual Pucks & Paws presented by Levin Furniture. Over 600 dogs spent the evening at The Q as the Monsters defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 in shootout fashion. The Monsters donated over $3,000 to the Cleveland Animal Protective League with the proceeds raised from dog ticket sales. Several adoptable dogs even left the game with new homes! The Monsters would like to thank Levin Furniture, the Cleveland APL, Lake Humane Society, Cuyahoga Humane Society, City Dogs Cleveland, VCA Great Lakes, and other valued partners for their contributions to the success of Pucks & Paws.
Thank You Fans!
2016-17 was another great season for the Monsters Community Fund, thanks to contributions from our fans. The Monsters Community Fund granted out over $26,000 to local non-profits through the 50/50 Raffle presented by McDonald's, and over $60,000 in additional funds to a variety of worthy causes including youth hockey in Northeast Ohio, nutrition for kids in Cleveland Municipal School District through Veggie U, cancer research, veterans support, local animal shelters, assistance for local families in need, and more.
In addition, the Monsters donated tickets, memorabilia, and auction items to hundreds of local groups that used these items to raise their own funds. The Monsters also hosted over 40 veterans as part of the Sifers Seats for Soldiers program, and eight families from the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Special Wish Foundation as a part of Craig's Kids.
Stay tuned this summer to see how the Monsters will continue to give back to the Northeast Ohio Community!
