Monsters Stumble in 7-1 Loss to Senators

The AHL’s Cleveland Monsters fell to the Belleville Senators 7-1 on Saturday night at CAA Arena. With the loss, the Monsters are now 12-11-1-1 and are currently in seventh place in the AHL’s North Division standings with 26 points.

 

Alex Formenton scored for Belleville just 28 seconds into the game, but Markus Hannikainen responded with a tally at 7:26 assisted by Kevin Stenlund and Nathan Gerbe to tie the game. The Senators regained the lead at 18:06 after a marker from Max Veronneau sending the teams into the first intermission with a 2-1 score.

 

Belleville scored three goals in the middle frame pushing the host’s lead to 5-1 beginning with Drake Batherson’s tally at 4:46. Fomenton converted on a penalty shot at 8:23 to bring the score to 4-1 followed by Josh Norris notching the Senators fifth goal at 16:49.

 

The Senators secured the lead in the final period with two goals from Veronneau and Rudolfs Balcers to bring the final score to 7-1.

 

Matiss Kivlenieks made 25 saves in the loss while Belleville’s Marcus Hogberg stopped 29 pucks for the win.
