Steve McCarthy

A former first-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks (23rd overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Trail, British Columbia native Steve McCarthy enters his second season in professional coaching with the Monsters in 2016-17. A member of the Monsters’ 2016 Calder Cup Championship team, McCarthy logged 302 career NHL appearances as a defenseman for the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Thrashers during a professional playing career that spanned 16 seasons from 2000-2016 and also featured stops in the AHL, KHL and ECHL, along with stints in the top Finnish and Swiss leagues.

A two-time Bronze Medalist with Team Canada at the 2000 and 2001 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships, McCarthy also captained the WHL’s Kootenay Ice to a league championship in 2000 and twice claimed Switzerland’s NLA Championship with the ZSC Lions in 2012 and 2014.
