Monsters Clash with Heat for First Time This Season

In the first of four meetings between the two teams this season, the Cleveland Monsters, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, drop the puck vs. the Stockton Heat, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, on Wednesday with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1 and the Monsters Hockey Network.

MONSTERS PRE-SCOUT: Following a 3-5 road loss to the Chicago Wolves on Sunday, the Cleveland Monsters enter tonight’s game at 17-27-4-3 on the season. With a .402 points percentage, the Monsters currently rank seventh in the AHL’s Central Division standings and 15th in the Western Conference standings. Cleveland is led in scoring by C Carter Camper (11-28-39), C Alex Broadhurst (15-14-29), and LW Terry Broadhurst (12-12-24).

HEAT PRE-SCOUT: In the wake of a 2-1 home win over the San Jose Barracuda, the Stockton Heat enter tonight’s game at 24-17-2-3 overall this season. With a .576 points percentage, the Heat currently rank third in the AHL’s Pacific Division standings and seventh in the Western Conference. Stockton is led in scoring by LW Andrew Mangiapane (19-22-41), C Marek Hrivik (11-19-30), and D Rasmus Andersson (6-24-30).

SEASON SERIES: Wednesday marks the first of four meetings between the Monsters and Heat this season and the first clash between the two teams in Monsters franchise history.

  • MR. GENEROSITY: Monsters LW Nathan Gerbe is currently in the midst of a five-game assists streak (7A), the AHL’s second-longest such active streak and is scoring at a better than point per game pace in his past five games (1-7-8) and in his last nine appearances (1-9-10) as well.
  • SHORTHANDED SUCCESS: Cleveland has quietly climbed into the AHL’s top-five in both shorthanded goals (9, T2nd) and home shorthanded goals (5, T4th) so far this season.
  • BLUE LINE BOMBERS: The Monsters will have to contend with a trio of snipers on Stockton’s blue line on Wednesday in D Rasmus Andersson, D Tyler Wotherspoon, and D Oliver Kylington. Andersson and Wotherspoon currently rank tied for sixth among AHL defensemen in scoring (30 PTS) and rank tied for third among AHL d-men in assists (24). Meanwhile Kylington’s 25 points rank in the AHL’s top-15 among blue-liners (T13th) and his 23 assists rank tied for fifth-most among AHL defensemen this season.
