Monsters Clash with Penguins at Home

In the first of four meetings between the two teams this season, the Cleveland Monsters, affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, drop the puck vs. the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, on Wednesday with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1, AHLTV and the Monsters Hockey Network.

MONSTERS PRE-SCOUT: Following a 5-3 road win over the Toronto Marlies on Monday, the Cleveland Monsters enter today’s game at 3-0-0-0 on the season. With a 1.000 points percentage, the Monsters currently rank first in the AHL’s Central Division standings and first in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland is led in scoring by C Zac Dalpe (4-2-6), LW Eric Robinson (3-2-5) and C Justin Scott (2-1-3).

PENGUINS PRE-SCOUT: In the wake of a 3-2 home shootout win over the Springfield Falcons on Saturday, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins enter today’s game at 1-0-0-0 on the season. With a 1.000 points percentage, the Penguins currently rank tied for third in the AHL’s Atlantic Division standings and tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is led in scoring by RW Zach Aston-Reese (1-0-1), D Ethan Prow (1-0-1), C Anthony Angello (0-1-1), RW Sam Lafferty (0-1-1) and D Zach Trotman (0-1-1).

  • CARLSSON TO CLEVELAND: The Monsters’ defensive corps received a major boost on Wednesday when the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets assigned former first-round draft choice (2015, 29th overall), D Gabriel Carlsson, to Cleveland. In 17 career NHL appearances for Columbus spanning parts of three seasons from 2016-18, Carlsson notched 0-3-3 with six penalty minutes and a -3 rating. In 36 AHL appearances for Cleveland spanning parts of the past two seasons, the 21 year-old Orebro, Sweden native supplied 2-4-6 with 16 penalty minutes and a -1 rating.
  • RIVALRY RENEWED: On Thursday, the Monsters and Penguins will square off for just the fifth time in franchise history and the first time since February 11, 2009. In the most recent meeting between the two teams, current Monsters C Mark Letestu supplied the secondary assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Jeff Taffe’s game-winning goal in a 3-1 Penguins home victory.
