Monsters Return To The Q To Take On Griffins

MATCHUP Returning home from a five-game road swing, the Lake Erie Monsters (27-25-6-4) welcome in the Western Conference leaders, and hottest team in the American Hockey League, the Grand Rapids Griffins (38-17-6-2) to Quicken Loans Arena for a 7:00 p.m. game tonight.  The Monsters are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss in Toronto last night, while the Griffins topped Milwaukee 3-1 in Grand Rapids a night ago.  The Monsters were 1-2-1-1 on their five-game road trip, while Grand Rapids has points in 19 straight games and is 15-0-3-1 over that span.  The last time the Monsters and Griffins met- December 20, 2014- the Griffins won 4-3 in a shootout.
 
LAST TIME OUT The Monsters fell in Toronto 2-1 in overtime last night, giving the Monsters points in back-to-back games.  The pulled to within five points of eighth place Hamilton with the overtime loss.  Andrew Agozzino scored the lone goal for the Monsters, while Calvin Pickard stopped 33 of 35 shots in net for the Monsters.  The Monsters are now 2-0-1-0 against Toronto this season.
 
WHO TO WATCH: MONSTERS Agozzino has a Monsters season-long seven-game point streak, and he has 10 points over his last seven games.  His goal last night was his team-leading 19th of the season, and it put him in sole possession of second place on the Monsters all-time goals list.  Agozzino, with 56 goals in his Monsters career, is two goals behind all-time team leader David van der Gulik.
 
WHO TO WATCH: GRIFFINS Andreas Athanasiou had a goal and an assist last night for the Griffins.  Athanasiou is in his first full professional season, and has 14 goals.  He was chosen in the fourth round, 110th overall, by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2012 draft.
