Monsters Seek to Even the Score Against Griffins

In the fourth of eight meetings between the two teams this season, the Cleveland Monsters, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, drop the puck vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, on Saturday with full coverage, live from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1 and the Monsters Hockey Network.

MONSTERS PRE-SCOUT: Following a 2-4 road loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, the Cleveland Monsters enter tonight’s game at 10-19-3-3 on the season. With a .371 points percentage, the Monsters currently rank seventh in the AHL’s Central Division standings and 15th in the Western Conference standings. Cleveland is led in scoring by C Carter Camper (7-16-23), C Alex Broadhurst (7-8-15), and RW Miles Koules (8-6-14).

GRIFFINS PRE-SCOUT: In the wake of a 4-2 home win over the Monsters on Friday, the Griffins enter tonight’s game at 19-16-1-4 overall this season. With a .538 points percentage, the Griffins currently rank sixth in the AHL’s Central Division standings and 11th in the Western Conference. Grand Rapids is led in scoring by LW Matt Puempel (13-18-31), LW Matt Lorito (12-16-28), and LW Eric Tangradi (12-16-28).

SEASON SERIES: Saturday marks the fourth of eight games between the Monsters and Griffins this season and the third of four meetings between the two teams at Van Andel Arena this year. KEYS TO SUCCESS:

  • IMPEDE PUEMPEL: Griffins top-scorer, LW Matt Puempel, is a 2018 AHL All-Star and is currently riding a seven-game home points streak (10 PTS), tied for the second-longest such active streak in the AHL and tied for the fourth-longest streak of its kind this season.
  • NHL REINFORCEMENT: With D Dean Kukan and C Zac Dalpe assigned to Cleveland by the Blue Jackets on Thursday, LW Tyler Motte and G Joonas Korpisalo were additionally assigned to the Monsters late last night, and all four are expected to be in the lineup for Cleveland this evening.
  • FINISH STRONG: Saturday marks the final game of Cleveland’s longest road trip to date this season, a seven-game, 13-day trek through the Central Division. Heading into a pair of home games vs. the Rockford IceHogs on Wednesday and Friday of next week, the Monsters are eager to end this marathon trip on a positive note Saturday in Grand Rapids.
