The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Ontario Reign in overtime on Wednesday at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA by a final score of 3-2. With the overtime setback, the Monsters are now 20-32-5-3 overall this season and with a .400 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.

In the middle stanza, Garett Cockerill’s first AHL score, an even-strength marker assisted by Alex Broadhurst and Terry Broadhurst at 0:32, tied the game at one for Cleveland before the Monsters claimed their first lead at 2-1 with a five-on-five finish from Ryan Kujawinski at 2:17 of the frame that came courtesy of Calvin Thurkauf’s lone feed. Mid-way through the second, the Reign fought back to tie the game at two, however, with an even-strength breakaway conversion from Austin Wagner at 9:09.
