Monsters Outpaced by Wolves, 5-1

Terry Broadhurst scores, Jeff Zatkoff stops 26 pucks in defeat at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Chicago Wolves at The Q on Thursday by a final score of 5-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 21-34-6-3 overall this season and with a .398 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.

The Wolves struck twice in the opening period at even-strength as goals from Paul Thompson at 11:20 and Tomas Hyka at 18:16 gave Chicago a 2-0 edge through 20 minutes of play. In the second, the Wolves extended their lead to 3-0 with an even-strength Jake Bischoff goal at 3:54, but the Monsters put themselves on the board with a Terry Broadhurst marker at 5:49, courtesy of even-strength feeds from Alex Broadhurst and Garett Cockerill. The Wolves scratched home another even-strength tally mid-way through the middle stanza though, as Thompson registered his second of the game at 9:23 to make it 4-1 for the visitors after two periods of play.
