CLEVELAND  The AHL’s defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, were defeated by the Texas Stars in front of 10,215 fans on Friday at The Q by a final score of 4-0. With the loss, Cleveland fell to 27-27-3-4 overall this season and with a .500 points percentage, remain alone in sixth place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Stars grabbed a 2-0 second-period lead on even-strength strikes from Caleb Herbert at 10:15 and Justin Dowling at 15:30, respectively. In the final stanza, Texas again tallied twice, as Austin Fyten netted a five-on-five goal at 10:58 and Gavin Bayreuther deposited his first-career professional goal on the power-play at 14:52 to establish Texas’ final margin of victory at 4-0.
Monsters net-minder Anton Forsberg fell to 18-15-3 this season despite making 27 saves, while Justin Peters improved to 13-15-2 between the pipes for the Stars by virtue of a 24-save shutout.
