Monsters Shut Down by Barracuda, 4-0
Zatkoff stops 25 in defeat as Cleveland falls to 1-2-0-0 on season-long seven-game road trip.
The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the San Jose Barracuda on Saturday at SAP Center in San Jose, CA by a final score of 4-0. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 20-31-4-3 overall this season and with a .405 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.

After a scoreless opening period, the Barracuda claimed a 1-0 lead at 1:28 of the middle frame when Alexander True notched a power-play goal. In the third, San Jose piled up three unanswered even-strength goals, from Manuel Wiederer at 3:34, Rudolfs Balcers at 5:40, and Emerson Clark at 12:19, to claim a 4-0 lead, and eventually, a victory by that very margin.
Cleveland’s Jeff Zatkoff fell to 2-4-1 in net this season despite stopping 25 of the 29 pucks he faced on Saturday while San Jose’s Antoine Bibeau improved to 18-11-2 between the pipes this year and notched his fourth shutout of the season with a 23-save performance.
