Monsters Sink Admirals, 5-3
Camper posts three points, Kivlenieks stops 21 pucks in decisive home win over Milwaukee.
The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Milwaukee Admirals on Thursday at The Q by a final score of 5-3. With the win, Cleveland improved to 6-4-2-1 overall this season and with a .577 points percentage, currently sit alone in second place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.

Milwaukee grabbed a 1-0 lead on Thursday when Bobby Butler potted an even-strength goal at 8:13 of the first period, but Cleveland’s Calvin Thurkauf leveled the score at one with a five-on-five finish at 14:59, set up by Miles Koules’ lone assist. The Monsters then took advantage of a late-frame five-on-three power-play to grab their first advantage of the contest at 18:50 of the first, courtesy of a Paul Bittner strike, made possible by a deft setup by Carter Camper and Dean Kukan.
After Milwaukee’s Pontus Åberg tied the game at two with a power-play marker at 10:44 of the second, the Monsters’ offense caught fire with three unanswered goals, from Camper on the power-play at 11:48, assisted by Sam Vigneault and Bittner, Hayden Hodgson at even-strength at 18:24, Hodgson’s first professional goal, set up by Camper and John Ramage, and a five-on-five finish from Justin Scott at 18:53, courtesy of feeds from Brady Austin and Jordan Maletta.
In the final stanza, Tyler Moy netted an extra-man tally at 15:52 to draw Milwaukee within a pair at 5-3, but the Monsters found the finish line in a decisive home win. Cleveland’s Matiss Kivlenieks improved to 2-3-1 in net this season by virtue of a 21-save performance, while Admirals backstop Juuse Saros fell to 0-1-0 between the pipes despite making 25 saves on Thursday.
