Monsters Sweep Weekend In Charlotte With 5-1 Win
Andrew Agozzino notched a hat trick and had an assist, extending his point streak to a team-record 11 games, as the Lake Erie Monsters (30-26-6-4) topped the Charlotte Checkers (28-35-5-1) 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. Agozzino has 19 points during the 11-game point streak, and the Monsters have now won back-to-back contests. Stefan Elliott and Kenny Ryan also scored for the Monsters, who return home to play Milwaukee Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Agozzino tapped in the rebound for his 20th goal of the season with 15:44 left in the first period, giving the Monsters a 1-0 lead. Reid Petryk and Ben Street assisted on the goal that extended Agozzino's point streak to a franchise-record 11 games.

Moments later on a power play, Agozzino spotted Elliott cutting through the right circle, and from the left wing, put a pass onto Elliott's stick. Elliott quickly snapped a shot high to beat Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre for his 18th goal of the season at 8:15 of the first period. Elliott's goal was assisted by Agozzino and Youds, and elevated Elliott to 35 points on the season; the most points in a season by a Monsters defenseman.
Ryan capped off the Monsters goal scoring in the first, giving them a 3-0 lead when he converted on a shorthanded breakaway at 19:39 of the first period. The goal was his second shorthanded goal and 10th goal of the season, and was unassisted.
Agozzino netted a backhand shot on a shorthanded breakaway at 6:10 of the second period to give the Monsters a 4-0 lead, and he completed his hat trick to give the Monsters a 5-0 lead with his 22nd goal of the season at 8:27 of the second period. Agozzino's third goal of the game was assisted by Tomas Vincour and Cody Corbett. Corbett found Vincour on an outlet pass, Vincour streaked to the net, and dished a backhand pass to Agozzino for the finish.
Dennis Robertson added a third period goal for Charlotte to cut the Monsters lead to 5-1 at 3:23 of the final frame.
Calvin Pickard stopped 34 of 35 shots for the Monsters; he is 18-14-7. MacIntyre stopped 10 of 15 Monsters shots before being pulled after 28:27 of work. John Muse finished the game for Charlotte, stopping 16 of 16 shots in 31:33 of game action.
