Cockerill nets two goals, Cleveland manages 37 shots on net in final game of lengthy road trip.

The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee, WI by a final score of 6-3. With the loss, the Monsters are now 23-38-7-3 overall this season and with a .394 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.

Cleveland trimmed the Admirals lead to 3-1 with a Ryan Kujawinski conversion at even-strength, assisted by Paul Bittner and Scott Savage at 15:28, but Milwaukee took a 4-1 advantage into the middle frame after Frederic Allard pounded home an even-strength tally at 16:51 of the opening period.

In the second, the Admirals extended their edge to 5-1 with a five-on-five Mark McNeill deflection at 2:10, but an even-strength wrister from Garret Cockerill at 18:07 pulled the Monsters within three after two periods of play at 5-2 thanks to Jefferson Dahl’s and Kale Kessy’s matching helpers. An empty-net score by Milwaukee’s Frederick Gaudreau made it 6-2 at 17:08 of the third, but Cockerill capped the scoring for the Monsters in a 6-3 loss with a power-play marker, his second goal of the game, at 19:37, thanks to Jordan Schroeder’s lone assist.

Cleveland net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks fell to 13-19-4 this season after allowing four goals on 15 shots faced in the first period before Jeff Zatkoff denied 15 of the 16 pucks he saw the rest of the way in relief.
