Monsters Top Chicago 1-0 Behind Pickards 34-Save Shutout

Calvin Pickard's 34-save shutout and a goal from Andrew Agozzino propelled the Lake Erie Monsters (26-23-5-3) to a 1-0 win over the Chicago Wolves (28-22-6-1) before a crowd of 9,436 Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena.  The win was the second straight for the Monsters, and it gave Pickard 52 wins as a Monster; a new franchise record for goaltending wins.  The Monsters now play eight of their next nine games on the road, beginning Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern against the Texas Stars.


Agozzino scored on a one-timer from the center-point at 7:23 of the first period after taking a backhand pass from Reid Petryk, who was protecting the puck along the left wing boards.  The goal was the team-leading 17th of the season for Agozzino, and was also assisted by Ben Street.

Pickard held the Wolves off the board, stopping 25 shots over the final 40 minutes, including 14 saves in the third period.  Pickard stopped 34 shots overall, and is 15-12-5 with two shutouts on the campaign for the Monsters.  Matt Climie stopped 24 of 25 in net for Chicago; he is 9-10-3 on the season.

The Monsters are back in action Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on the road against the Texas Stars, with the game airing live on AM 1420 'The Answer'.

NOTES: The Monsters are 5-2-0-0 against Chicago, and have won five straight against the Wolves... With five wins against the Wolves, the Monsters have beaten them more than any other team...
