Monsters Tripped Up by Stars, 4-1
Koules scores for Cleveland, Kivlenieks stops 25 in defeat for Monsters.
The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Texas Stars at The Q on Friday by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 7-5-2-2 overall this season and with a .563 points percentage, currently sit alone in fourth place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Stars grabbed a 2-0 second period lead with even-strength goals from Denis Gurianov at 1:13 and Roope Hintz at 4:58, respectively. In the third, Texas pushed their edge to 3-0 with a Justin Dowling power-play score at 0:54, but Cleveland drew within a pair thanks to an extra-man Miles Koules finish at 5:46, on feeds from Dean Kukan and Andre Benoit. The Stars emerged with a 4-1 victory, however, as an empty-netter for Texas’ Sheldon Dries at 19:03 sealed Cleveland’s fate.
