Brady Austin to Represent Monsters at 2018 AHL All-Star Classic


Blue-liner replaces Cleveland’s top-scoring defenseman Dean Kukan on Central Division’s roster.

The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Friday that defenseman Brady Austin will replace blue-liner Dean Kukan on the Central Division roster for the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino to be held January 28-29 in Utica, NY. Originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Austin supplied 3-8-11 with 26 penalty minutes and a +6 rating in 30 appearances for the Monsters this season.

A 6’4”, 229 lb., left-handed native of Bobcaygeon, ON, Austin, 24, posted four penalty minutes in five NHL appearances for Buffalo last season and in 240 AHL appearances for the Rochester Americans and the Monsters spanning parts of four seasons from 2014-18, Austin contributed 10-34-44 with 153 penalty minutes and a -22 rating. Austin additionally appeared in one game for the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals during the 2014-15 season and prior to his professional career, Austin notched 29-81-110 with 194 penalty minutes and a +81 rating in 322 OHL appearances for the Erie Otters, Belleville Bulls, and London Knights, spanning five seasons from 2009-14.
