Eastern Conference Preview: Rochester Americans

The Cleveland Monsters welcome a familiar opponent back to their schedule in 2018-19 as the Monsters renew their rivalry with the Rochester Americans. Coming off a 37-22-11-6 season, the ‘Amerks’ clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2013-14 under first-year Head Coach Chris Taylor before falling in three games to the Syracuse Crunch in the North Division Semi-Final series.

The Monsters, who lead the all-time series vs. the Americans 28-25-2-3, will square-off with Rochester eight times during the upcoming 2018-19 campaign with Rochester making four trips to the Q and the Monsters making four stops at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The first-ever meeting between these two teams took place on November 23rd, 2007, with the most recent matchup taking place April 9th, 2015 at The Q.

Perhaps the most memorable meeting between the two teams took place on December 11th of the 2013-14 season when the two foes squared off in the AHL Outdoor Classic at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. Former Monster Matt Hunwick scored at 19:59 of the third period to send the game into overtime, 4-4, before the ‘Amerks’ ultimately won the game in the sixth round of the shootout.

With only 259 miles separating the two franchises, the Monsters and Americans will look to rekindle their heated rivalry from years past.
