Eastern Conference Preview: Utica Comets

For the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, the Cleveland Monsters will square off with the Utica Comets in the upcoming AHL 2018-19 season. The Comets, led by second-year Head Coach Trent Cull, are coming off a 38-26-8-4 regular-season capped off with their third playoff appearance in franchise history, where they were defeated in five games by the Toronto Marlies.

The Monsters haven’t played Utica since the Comets’ inaugural season in 2013-14 but will meet four times in 2018-19 - twice on the road at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica and twice on home ice at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Monsters trail the all-time series against the Comets, 3-4-1-2, after the first match up on Nov. 7, 2013 - a Monsters 4-0 victory at The Q. Former Monsters goaltender Calvin Pickard earned the 21-save shutout, while the team’s all-time franchise leader in goals, Andrew Agozzino, capped the scoring for the evening, sealing a Monsters home win.

This past season the Utica Comets' lineup featured former Monsters Defenseman Jaime Sifers, who played an integral role as an assistant captain of the Cleveland Monsters' 2016 Calder Cup Champion team.
