As the regular season dwindles down, the Monsters NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets, have turned their focus towards the future, allowing the younger players a chance to show their skill at the next level.

Sonny Milano is the latest player with a Monsters connection to have an opportunity to make his National Hockey League debut. Milano is expected to be in the line-up tonight as the Blue Jackets travel to New York to take on the Islanders.

Dean Kukan recently made his first NHL appearance. He saw over 14 minutes of ice time in his debut on March 26th when the Blue Jackets faced the Predators in Nashville. He also played during the March 28th game in Washington and is expected to see playing time tonight in Brooklyn.

“We are a little banged up, so it gives you an opportunity,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella told BlueJackets.com. “For me, it really helps me because we’re in this situation. I want to see them as much as possible right now. But that does not change my belief that you rush people into the league. I think that the American (Hockey) League is a great league in developing players.”

Despite taking the loss in his most recent appearance for the CBJ, Joonas Korpisalo continues to be a strong presence in net, stopping 43 Predators pucks on the 26th.

Oliver Bjorkstrand added another point to his stat line on March 24th with the primary assist on a Boone Jenner goal.

It was announced Tuesday that Zach Werenski, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft (8th overall), had signed an American Hockey League amateur tryout contract with Monsters. He spoke with the voice of the Monsters, Tony Brown, following his first professional practice
