Monsters Sign Defenseman Michael Prapavessis to One-Year AHL Contract


Former RPI defenseman logged 11 games with ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones last season.

The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Tuesday that the team signed defenseman Michael Prapavessis to a one-year AHL contract for the 2018-19 season. A 6’2”, 185 lb. left-handed native of Oakville, ON, Prapavessis, 22, was originally selected by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Last season, Prapavessis logged 0-2-2 with six penalty minutes and a +2 rating in the first professional action of his career, an 11-game stint with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones, following his senior campaign at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) during which Prapavessis posted 0-19-19 with 18 penalty minutes and a -10 rating while serving as one the Engineers’ captains. In 154 NCAA appearances for RPI spanning four varsity seasons from 2014-18, Prapavessis supplied 7-55-62 with 80 penalty minutes and a -46 rating.
