Mullet Bros Announce Retirement

ckenney

Mullet Nation, These past 10 years have been nothing short of amazing..  We came here from up north looking for an opportunity with then, the Lake Erie Monsters, and turned into the best years of our lives.  We've seen over 400 Monsters games, met a lot of great people, made lots of funny videos, had tons of Mullet races and skills challenges, rocked many during human bowling and even experienced the first Calder Cup Championship in 52 years firsthand!

From all the past hockey teams in the city before us, the Monsters franchise is by far the best. For us to be a part of Cleveland hockey history means the world to us and that’s because of all you fans! Meeting so many great people and players over the years has made this an experience of a lifetime.  We have a very large family and have all been lucky enough to have worked with the Monsters over these past 10 years. With so many great moments memories with this team over the years, we all want to thank you personally and let you know what our time here has meant to us.

“Mullet Nation, I want to start this off by saying, "Thank you," to everyone that made the Mullet Brothers what we have been for the past 10 years. A special shout out to Matty B for giving us a shot and just letting us be us. You will always be a part of the Mullet family. Another special shout out to my older brother and El Capitan of the group, Nick. You held us together and kept the bond strong even when the ice was at its dirtiest or when that Bird got in the way. To my other brothers, Jake, Jason, Frank, Max, Ian, Dan, and even that parrot, Sully and his wingman Pete, thank you all for making this such a fun and rewarding experience from the bottom of my heart. And most importantly, thank you to all the fans out there for your continued dedication. Without you, there would be no Monsters hockey or Mullet Brothers. There are so many stories and experiences I can think of to name them all but I have made so many great memories in my time here and I am eternally grateful for that. I have met so many outstanding human beings and I would not trade this for anything. Thank you again to you all, I will never forget any of you.“

“Hey fans! I wanted to take a moment and let you all know what an absolute blast it has been to be your toughest Ice Crew in the league!  As I think back on all the unforgettable memories it's impossible to pick just a few because there are so many.  Although winning the Cup was probably right up there with the best of them, wouldn't you say?!  I'm so grateful for all the support you've given us over the years and it really made every game something to look forward to. From signing autographs and taking pictures, to checking the boards and pumping up the crowd, to simply having a conversation about the team on game day.  I wouldn't trade any of it for the world!  I'm also thankful for all the fans that became friends along the way.  Seeing you support us every game is something special that I'll cherish for the rest of my life.  When they say Cleveland has the best fans, that is no lie! So again, I thank each and every one of you for your signs, smiles, fist bumps and support!  HIT SOMEBODY!!”

“Throughout my time as a member of this Ice Crew I have thoroughly enjoyed coming to the rink every game day to not only give the players a nice clean surface, but to see the greatest fans in the AHL!  I just wanted to thank you for the support you have shown us over the past 10 years as Mullet Brothers, we will truly miss you guys!  As we begin the next phase in our lives we will never forget the city of Cleveland and all the memories you have given us.  As for the next people to clean the ice at The Q just remember, the Mullet Brothers are the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!!!!”

“I regret nothing... I’ve made em' laugh, cry, boo, cheer, beg, taunt (me), mad, happy, red fish, blue fish. I've cost more season ticket holders in beer money, than what I get paid. Made a lot of friends, and a few tough enemies. I've cheered for many boys, cried for a few men who left, bled for my transgressions, made a lifetime of memories, and have the rings and tattoo to prove it… All in all, wasn't a bad decade, gonna miss it. Thank you. Cheers.”

“For me, these past 10 years have been some of the best of my life!  From the very 1st opening night in 2007 when we debuted I knew this was going to be something special.  There are so many great memories, too many to list actually. But a few of my favorite parts from my time here with the Monsters are ones that happen right when I walk into The Q.  Whether it be interacting with all you great fans, checking the glass, chirping the opposing teams goalie, messing with Sully (repeatedly... gonna miss you Bird!), all the great people we work with, being able to represent the Monsters at 3 AHL All-Star weekends and all the behind the scenes pranks between my brothers and I are just a few that come to mind…

We came to this city 10 years ago to scrape ice, but it turned out to be so much more.  Each season has meant a lot to me, but if I'm picking a favorite year it was 2016. A season that we didn't expect turned out to be one that Cleveland will remember forever.  Every single game was intense and I loved every second of it.  Watching our team set an AHL record of 15-2 was awesome to watch and I'm glad that I was able to be a part of it!  Seeing the Monsters win the Calder Cup was simply amazing! And also, being able to hoist that Cup over my head was a truly special moment for me...   Lastly to our fans, the standing ovation you gave us on our final night in April meant the world to us, so thank you from the bottom of my heart, this experience is something I will never forget.”

Until we see you again.
