Ramage Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week
Monsters assistant captain posted four points, +4 rating in pair of Cleveland victories.
CLEVELAND – The AHL’s defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, announced Tuesday that Cleveland defenseman John Ramage was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending on December 25, 2016.
Ramage tallied four points and a +4 rating in two appearances for Cleveland last week as the Monsters improved to 7-0-0-1 in their last eight contests with a pair of wins over the Charlotte Checkers at Quicken Loans Arena.
On Tuesday night vs. Charlotte, Ramage was named the game’s first star after he posted the first three-point game of his professional career, scoring the winning goal with 3:54 left in regulation, assisting on two other third-period scores, putting a game-high seven pucks on net and notching a +4 rating as Cleveland defeated the Checkers 4-2. Then on Thursday, Ramage set up another Monsters marker to help Cleveland to a 3-2 victory over Charlotte, moving the Monsters into third place alone in the AHL’s Central Division standings at 15-11-1-2.
Ramage has supplied 2-7-9 in 22 games for Cleveland this season, his fourth pro campaign, along with 16 penalty minutes and a +1 rating. The 25-year-old University of Wisconsin product has appeared in 197 career AHL games for Cleveland, Adirondack and Abbotsford, recording 13-39-52 with 210 penalty minutes and a +5 rating, and has two career NHL appearances to his credit, one apiece for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets. A member of the Monsters’ Calder Cup Championship team last spring, Ramage also earned Gold Medal honors with the United States at the 2010 World Junior Championships and captained Team USA to a Bronze Medal finish in 2011.
In recognition of his achievement, Ramage will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monsters home game.
Next up for the Monsters, it’s a Wednesday home clash vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Sports Time Ohio, 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
