Kids ages 4-8 years old will receive a 30 minute equipment introduction followed by an hour of on-ice instruction. These sessions are designed to be a fun introduction to the sport, covering the basics of equipment, skating, and time on the ice.

All equipment will be provided from head to toe, although it’s recommended to bring skates if already owned.

Instruction will be led by Cleveland Monsters hockey staff members including NHL Stanley Cup Champion Jock Callander.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is the event taking place?

This event takes place at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland on the same ice where the Monsters play all home games.

Where should I park?

Parking is available in several lots nearby, including the flat lot directly next to the FieldHouse across Huron Road. Unfortunately, the Gateway East Garage attached to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will NOT be open at the time of arrival for this event.

When should we arrive and where should we enter?

Participants are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in. Families can enter through the Northwest Cleveland Cliffs Entrance between 1:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. in order to be ready once the event begins at 1:30 p.m.

What should participants wear?

We recommend your child wears either a lightweight shirt and shorts or lightweight sweatpants underneath the provided equipment. Long socks are required, as ankle socks do not suffice while wearing ice skates.

What happens at the event?

Try Hockey for Free presented by TL Limo will begin with a 30-minute intro tutorial on  hockey equipment and properly tying skates, followed by 60-minutes on the ice with coaches. While on the ice, players will practice skating along with other basic skills such as passing and shooting. Parents will be directed to the stands to watch, then heading back to help kiddos undress once the on-ice portion ends.
