KEYS TO SUCCESS:
- ELVIS HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING: Cleveland will turn to goaltender Elvis Merzlikins on Friday in the Riga, Latvia native’s first-career AHL appearance. Originally selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round (76th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Merzlikins posted a record of 0-1-2 with a 3.91 goals-against average and a .882 save percentage in four appearances for the Blue Jackets this season prior to his assignment to Cleveland on Wednesday.
- HOT MEETS HOTTER: While the Laval Rocket are cruising along at the moment, winners of four-straight games and having earned points in each of their past five outings (4-0-1-0), the Monsters are the only team currently on more of a roll in the AHL. Cleveland’s active five-game winning streak is the longest such active streak league-wide and tied for the fourth-longest streak of its kind in the AHL this year while the Monsters’ four-game home winning streak is tied for the second-longest such active streak league-wide and Cleveland’s six-game points streak (5-0-0-1) currently ranks tied for the longest such streak in the AHL.
- TRIGGER MAN: On Friday, the Monsters will need to neutralize Rocket captain Xavier Ouellet, who currently ranks second league-wide and first among AHL defensemen in shots on goal (49) and whose two power-play goals currently rank tied for the AHL-lead among blue-liners.
